New Investigational Device for People With Heart Failure

The Rheos® System is like a pacemaker, in that a device is implanted under the skin by the collarbone. The system is currently being studied to determine whether it is safe and improves heart function and survival in heart failure patients.

How the Rheos System is Designed to Work

Rheos System
  1. The Rheos System sends signals via wires (leads)
to special cells in the neck

  2. These signals activate the body’s baroreceptors

  3. Baroreceptors send signals to the brain

  4. The brain sends signals to other body parts:

    • Relaxing arteries to improve blood flow
    • Slowing heart rate to allow more time for
      heart to fill with blood
    • Reducing fluid build-up to decrease workload
      on heart
